Fairlawn opened in 1964 through the vision and generous support of 11 area Mennonite churches.  Under the guidance of a board of trustees, Fairlawn continues to thrive and serve our region.  Our beautiful and accessible campus offers a full continuum of care options. With 153 independent living duplexes and apartments, a health & wellness center, 24 assisted living rooms, and  99 bed health care facility that includes memory care, short term rehab services and long-term care you are sure to find the right option to fit your needs both today and in the future.

Fairlawn is accredited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and licensed through the Ohio Department of Health.   As a privately owned and operated not-for-profit faith-based organization, you can be assured of our commitment to high quality care and services.

Board Of Trustees

Lonnie Rufenacht

Lonnie serves Chairperson of  the Board of Trustees. He has worked at Archbold Container (a division of Green Bay Packaging) for 32 years serving in various roles including Computer Programmer, Accountant, Production Scheduler and Controller. Lonnie is a member of Crossroads Evangelical Church where he is active with the worship ministry in sound. A lifelong member of the area, Lonnie is a graduate of Pettisville High School and Northwest State Community College. He and his wife Barb reside in rural Wauseon. They have three adult children and 5 grandchildren.

Tom Warner

Tom serves as Vice President of the Board of Trustees.  He has held several roles during his 41-year career at Sauder Woodworking including: Product Engineering Manager, New Market Development and Director of Operations for the Sauder Funeral Products Division. Tom is a member of Archbold Evangelical Church, having served as a Junior High Youth sponsor and on the Trustee Board. He is a graduate of Archbold High School and Northwest Community College and holds a degree in Civil Construction Engineering. Tom and his wife Kristi reside in rural Archbold. They have two adult children and two grandchildren.

Ruth Kauffman

Ruth serves as treasurer of the Board of Trustees. She is a Vice President at Farmers & Merchants State Bank, co-managing the CML/AG underwriting department. Ruth is a member of Tedrow Mennonite Church. She is also actively involved with her family’s farm. Ruth is a graduate of Archbold High School and Northwest State Community College. She also holds degrees in in Accounting, Finance and Business Management from Franklin University where she earned her bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Business Administration. Ruth is active in the community having served as treasurer/bookkeeper for several organizations. She and her husband Dennis reside in the Village of Archbold with their 2 young children.

Karen Walker

Karen serves as the secretary for the Board of Trustees. A retired registered nurse and nurse educator, Karen taught in the Health Careers program at Four County Career Center for 23 years. As a member of St. John’s Christian Church, she has served as a Sunday School teacher, Consistory member, coordinator for community meals and organizer of the Life Planning program. Karen is a graduate of Pettisville High School and earned her BSN and Masters in Education at the University of Toledo. She and her husband David reside in the Village of Archbold. They have three adult sons and two granddaughters.

Bonnie Heatwole

Bonnie serves as Past Chair of the Board of Trustees. A retired registered nurse, Bonnie spent much of her career focused on community health. Raised in Archbold, she spent many years serving in Pennsylvania alongside her husband Steve, a retired Mennonite minister. She is a graduate of Archbold High School, Northwest State Community College (LPN), Hesston College (RN) and Waynesburg University (BSN). Returning to Archbold in 2009 she is a member of Lockport Mennonite Church. Bonnie and Steve live in rural Archbold and have 2 adult children and 6 grandchildren.

Lori Frey

Lori is an accountant at the William Vaughn Company. She is lifelong member of North Clinton Church where she has served on the stewardship committee and is currently leading children’s music for toddlers through kindergarten. A graduate of Pettisville High School, she has also been active in outreach ministry at Nascar camping event and has been an aquatic exercise instructor for over 10 years. Lori and her husband Marlin reside in Pettisville. They have three adult children and three granddaughters.

Doug Kauffman

Doug works in Sales and as an Estimator for Seaway Scaffold. He is an active member of Central Mennonite Church. A graduate of Wauseon High School, Doug grew up in rural Wauseon and currently resides in the Village of Archbold with his wife Norma. They have 2 adult daughters and seven grandchildren.

Kevin Morton

Kevin is the President and Managing partner of Andres, O’Neil & Lowe Insurance Company. Kevin is a member of Archbold United Methodist Church and has served on the Archbold City Council and Archbold Park Board for 20 years. He is a graduate of Archbold High School and Miami University. Kevin and his wife Claire reside in the Village of Archbold. They have 2 adult sons and 3 grandchildren.

Tim Wagler

Tim is a Territory Sales Manager for Sauder Mfg. in the educational products division. He is a lifelong member of Zion Mennonite church where he has served in various leadership roles including chairman of Pastoral Search Committee, chairman of Pastoral Congregation Relationship Committee and Life Planning Advocate and Leader. Tim was a member of the Archbold Rotary Club for 15 years and served as the community relations chair. A graduate of Pettisville High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo and Master’s degree in Business and Organizational Leadership from Defiance College. Tim and his wife Sherry reside in the Village of Archbold. They have two adult sons and three grandchildren.

Supporting Churches

Fairlawn is operated through a partnership with ten area churches. Each church has a representative who acts as the liaison between the congregation, the board of trustees and the Fairlawn management team.
